On the pages of Millie Marotta’s Animal Kingdom colouring book, the intricate outlines of all manner of mammals and animals swoop, soar, stomp and swim. The forms of each are concocted from botanical elements, flowers and leaves, thus hulking great beasts such as hippos, rhinos, elephants and bears are somehow rendered light and – depending on you – bright, with beautifully detailed patterning. This is a book that’s for adults and children alike, where stress levels are brought down just as imagination takes flight. A set of fine-tipped pens and the allocation of time are both a good idea here, for rushing should be avoided, while precision colouring is the goal. Freelance illustrator Millie Marotta, who works in a small seaside studio in West Wales, has given her fans a new way of achieving mindfulness, by sharing with them an opportunity to collaborate with her on the creation of a new, more colourful way of seeing the world.
